TRA Hosts the First Meeting of Radiocommunications Consultative Committee
Manama - the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) hosted the first meeting of the recently constituted Radiocommunications Consultative Committee (RCC) at its Seef headquarters. This advisory and consultative body is designed to facilitate the flow of information from TRA to the telecommunications sector, and give the sector the opportunity to provide early feedback on a variety of regulatory and technical issues.
33 persons representing 19 organisations from the telecommunications sector attended this first meeting, chaired by Mohamed Mahmood, TRAs Director Technical and Operations.
Subjects discussed included microwave fixed link spectrum congestion and an associated licensing and frequency assignment policy, as well as the fee structure applicable to microwave fixed links and the need to introduce a site registration system for radiocommunications infrastructure. The current light licensing regime for 2.4, 5.2 and 5.8 GHz equipment was also discussed and TRA confirmed its intention to intensify its campaign for the monitoring and enforcement of the conditions of use associated with the light licensing regime( for example enforcing the permitted EIRP, maximum height of antenna etc. see Regulation 1 of 2006 for details).
RCC next meeting will take place on 29 May, at which it is intended to finalise the policy on microwave fixed link spectrum based on comments received by 2 May. The theme for the subsequent RCC meeting is likely to be public mobile telecommunications including in-building coverage issues. Said Mr. Mahmood.
