Manama - Mr. Hemant Contractor, Managing Director of State Bank of India is visiting Bahrain on the 15th and 16th of December 2011. This visit for Mr. Contractor will be a sort of a home coming as he was associated with the operations of the Bank in the early nineties for a period of four years. The visit of Mr. Contractor is important given the background that Trade between the GCC states and India is showing an increasing trend and to facilitate the flow of business, SBI is also scaling up its level of operations. SBI within the last five months, has opened a Retail Branch in Jeddah, a Wholesale Bank in Doha, Qatar and has added to its Retail Network in Bahrain by opening a Branch in Riffa. The total number of branches in the GCC is now seven.
Mr. Hemant G. Contractor is Managing Director and Group Executive (International Banking) and a Whole-Time Director of State Bank of India since 7th April 2011. A banker with an experience of 37 years in various facets of Banking, Mr. Contractor joined the bank as a Probationary Officer in 1974. Prior to this appointment, he was Deputy Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer. He has had stints in Treasury, Credit and Corporate Banking, besides overseas experience in Bahrain.
Mr. Contractor will be meeting a cross section of people in Bahrain including top businessmen and executives during his stay in Bahrain. He is also scheduled to call on the Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain.
